Commentaire du vendeur

First, a little history of the famous Arco Camera Company of Japan .... The company was founded in May 1946 under the name Asaka Seikō by Katō Shigeru and Asami Katsuzō, who started by making various mechanical parts for optical instruments, moving on to make tripods and other photographic accessory hardware after a couple of years. In 1949, the company moved into producing cameras under the brandname Arco, and the company name was changed to Arco Shashin Kōgyō K.K.  Over the next six years, Arco produced a line of classic, beautifully designed, very successful premium-quality film cameras, albeit in very limited production numbers, and these are all still revered and sought after by collectors around the World.
In 1955, after their founder Katō Shigeru had made his first trip to the United States to visit their dealers there, he was amazed to see the growth of cine cameras in the USA, and was convinced the future of photography lay in cine film. So the company quickly reoriented its manufacturing activities towards the production of prestige-quality, high-priced 8mm cine film cameras.
Their first movie camera, the Arco Eight, was released to lacklustre reviews in 1956, but it was quickly followed by other more acclaimed models, including this Zoom S released in 1958, the same year that Arco ceased production of all their still cameras.
However, the competition in the cine camera market was very strong from other, longer-established brands, so Arco simply didn't succeed in becoming the major contender in the movie camera market it had planned to be, and sadly went bankrupt in late 1960, closing its doors in 1961, leaving behind a legacy of beautifully designed and built cameras for both stills and cine photography
This is a rare and beautiful Arco Zoom S 8mm Cine Film camera, in good condition and full working order, complete with original case & manual
